Hello there Term 1 Pottery Students,

Well done - you’ve reached the mid-point of the course and we are now about to start on week 4 of the 8 week programme. So far you have been working to develop your skills in becoming potters. Although not all of you will find yourself on the GPTD, you will hopefully have gained an insight into the world of the hand-made, an appreciation of the materials and geology of our area and some improvement in your design and dexterity skills. Who knows, you could one day be bringing a tear to Keith’s eye!

Ahead are some useful snippets of information that will keep you in touch with various developments and updates.

The programme for early Spring is out there and ready for your perusal. I have made some slight amendments to the programme to better fit the developing demands from the potters both already subscribing to courses and to those requesting for information. There include:

Ceramics for All: In addition to the Tuesday courses we are offering a Wednesday evening Ceramics for All class, The Ceramics for All classes are pitched at those who already have some ceramics skills. There will be a new format with some development of the hand-building and throwing skills introduced in the first term in January 2023, so expect some interesting challenges on this course.

The course remains affordable at £25 per session + booking fees. 4kg of clay including firings and glazes are included in this.

Advanced Throwing: Friday 10.00am to 12.30pm.

Lucy Bell is back from her Indian adventure and is a superb thrower. She will be leading this six week course. As you are aware, learning how to throw requires focus, dedication and close guidance from the teacher. The class size is always no more than 4 people and as such the cost of the course reflects both the skill of the tutor and the personal learning experience you will gain as a result.
